Light appetisers and drinks will be served during the briefing which will introduce the New Zealand part of the Mission program (Please note: a more comprehensive Australia and New Zealand market update and delegate briefing will be held over lunch in Melbourne on the first day of the Australian Mission program)

Monday 22 August

11:15pm         Meet in SKYCITY Grand lobby to walk to NZME for media house visit

11:30am          NZME Media House Visit

NZME is New Zealand’s largest media house, with a portfolio comprising the country's flagship newspaper, The New Zealand Herald, along with six other daily newspapers, 25 non-daily newspapers, over 20 websites, magazines, radio stations, mobile sites and apps.

We will be taken on tour of the new NZME building and then have a round table update from some of the key editorial team members. The visit will conclude with a working lunch to network with the NZME team.

Auckland is home to the majority of New Zealand’s media and you will meet 25 of these media representatives over an intimate evening event. The night will commence with stand-up cocktails and appetisers to encourage networking with media guests, followed by a sit down, California-themed dinner. Seating will rotate after the main course to ensure connections are made with as many media as possible.

Tuesday 23 August

11:30am          Group transfer to Mission Delegate Briefing (luggage will be left on buses and taken to the Adelphi Hotel)

With the full delegation all now “Down Under”, this will be a comprehensive briefing on the market and Mission schedule. This will be staged over lunch with a few special surprises..

Wednesday 24 August

10:20am        Meet in lobby of the Adelphi Hotel and transfer to Melbourne Media Workshop

                     Please note: you will need to store your bags with the bell desk as part of the “Visit California Group”. A member of the Gate 7 team will collect these and ensure they are placed on the airport transfer bus while you are at the lunch event.

Extending on the messaging surfaced via Visit California’s July culinary activity in and the airing of MasterChef’s “California Week” in Australia, 12-15 of Melbourne’s food and lifestyle media will be invited to participate in a Californian wine educational  and wine making lesson (with wine making). Delegates will be teamed up with attending media for the wine making component of the workshop with a prize for the team who come up with the best name for their wine. Lunch will be served from California-inspired food trucks.

9:00am             Media Pitching Sessions at the Ivy Penthouse (level 5 of the Ivy)

Using a format similar to the UK show “Dragon’s Den” and Australia’s “Shark Tank”, this event will see key target media invited to pitch their best California story ideas to our delegation for a chance to have their dream trip and story idea turned into a reality. Six media representatives and their respective teams will be invited, along with members of their editorial teams, to participate in the sessions. Media will be assigned individual timeslots and have a maximum of 20 minutes to pitch their story ideas to the delegation.

A light lunch will be served upon the conclusion of the pitching sessions at the Ivy Penthouse.

Approx. 50 of Sydney’s top print, radio and broadcast journalists, together with social media influencers, will be hosted for a California themed dinner. The night will commence with stand-up cocktails and appetisers to encourage networking with media guests, followed by a sit down, California-themed dinner. Seating will rotate after the main course to ensure connections are made with as many media as possible.

Friday 26 August

8:30am               Meet in Primus Hotel lobby for group transfer to Sydney Media Workshop

9am–1pm           Sydney Media Workshop:  The Changing Media Landscape

                           Venue: QT – Screening Room

                           49 Market Street, Sydney

As the PR and media world has evolved, the lines between earned and paid have blurred, as with the boundaries between PR, trade and consumer. This new landscape has also given rise to a new breed of media who are today just as important to consider in program planning as traditional media. Delegates will hear from a brand expert, Richard Sauerman, and three of the new world’s content creators with time for Q&A.

Lunch will be served at the conclusion of the Sydney Media Workshop.

2-5:00pm        Media Networking Activity: Amazing Race Around Sydney

Designed to foster strong relationships with media and delegates, while at the same time educating media about California and delegate destinations, this is a team building event which would see a number of groups compete against each other in a scavenger style hunt around Sydney using California as the theme for challenges and clues. The activity itself would last 1.5 hours and at the end of the race, the groups will unite at a venue for post-challenge drinks.

Dress code: Casual (flat shoes recommended!)

Saturday 27 August

8:00am           Meet in Primus hotel lobby for 8:15am departure to Sydney Olympic Park for College Football Game and Tailgate Party

The Cal Bears (Berkeley) will take on the Hawaiian Rainbow Warriors.  Visit California, Brand USA and Hawaii Tourism will collectively host the networking event.  For the Sydney B2B session, buyer delegates will be sent an invitation to this event as well as the B2B.

Dress code: Sporty Casual

9:15am             Arrive at Tailgate party

                        Games will be organised and catering from a food truck.  More details to come.

12noon – 4pm Game

Approx 100 retail and wholesale travel agents from New Zealand’s capital city, Auckland, will be invited to attend this breakfast training event. The two-hour format will be a shortened version of the Expos. All delegates will have the opportunity to have their key messages presented to the group over the course of the event. The event will commence with networking time followed by a seated California-inspired breakfast which will be served during presentations. Delegate collateral will be prepacked into take home bags for attendees.

The first hour is a free flow, marketplace format which will be followed by a two hour sit down dinner and presentations adopting a morning television format. This very special breakfast event will bring together 70 Qantas Holidays retail agents who are best sellers of California product. As with the Auckland Travel Trade Agent Breakfast, the two-hour format will be a shortened version of the Expos. As this group is focused on experienced and well informed agents, this is a great opportunity to provide a unique point about your product, all delegates will have an opportunity to communicate their key message during the presentation time. The event will commence with networking time followed by a seated California-inspired breakfast which will be served during presentations.
